ATLANTA, GA - Emphasis Records/Atlanta Music Group has announced the release of a new Southern Rock album titled; Stevie Hawkins - "Georgia Jam."
Georgia Jam is a compilation of live Southern Rock/Classic Rock jams featuring some of the unsung founders of Southern music, Spencer Kirkpatrick (Hydra); Barry Richman (Col. Bruce Hampton, Wet Willie); Wayne "Bear" Sauls (Eric Quincy Tate, David Allan Coe, Buddy Miles); Reddog; Kerry Creasy (Dr. Hector & The Groove Injectors, Son Seals, Tinsley Ellis, Elvin Bishop) on bass guitar, and Stevie Hawkins who's shared stage credits include, (Leon Russell, Gregg Allman, Albert King) performing on drums and vocals throughout.
This 16 track release captures the essence and spontaneity of Southern Rock and Classic Rock taken from various recent live performances.
Opening with "Rebels Yell" this CD lets you know from the 'git-go' that Southern Rock is alive and kickin' and they're loud and proud of it. Moving on into some raucous jams, "Georgia Jam" the title cut, and "Locomotive 22", it's all aboard the freedom train with Hawkins, Kerry Creasy and Spencer Kirkpatrick on a ride of spontaneity and just plain ol' fashioned down home rowdy rockin' fun. With EQT guitarist Wayne "Bear" Sauls taking the stage for the (on the spot) instrumental jams "Dancing Bear" and "Grits and Gravy", and Reddog's slide guitar work on "Honest Man", the tracks serve up a deep Southern groove.
Passing on the torch and transcending from Southern Rock into Classic Rock with guitarist Barry Richman, the influences on his musical evolution of Jimi Hendrix and Robin Trower can be felt on "No Bridges", Mahogany Rush on "The Dragon Slayer" with a little Zappa thrown in for good measure on "The Dazed And Confused".
Hawkins' talents are showcased on this release. The tracks encompass a wide range of his vocal and drumming prowess, taking us with him as he traverses the landscape of the South from the amphitheatres of the foothills on "Going Down", to the acoustic Delta Blues, "CC Rider", and back to the big city rock arena on "No Bridges".
Emphasis/AMG and Hawkins are now gearing up for press, radio, promotion, distribution and concert bookings for Stevie Hawkins & Georgia Jam. His current live shows with the band, should not be missed.
Also coming soon from Emphasis: "Hydra Live", 70's Capricorn Rock Legends Hydra, live for the first time in decades, recorded at "Guitar Fest" Jim R. Miller Park, Georgia.
