Many businesses are looking at migration options for Oracle Financial Analyzer. Now might not be the best time to choose a replacement, Artrange Data offers businesses assistance in extending the life of their OFA systems and establishing a solid roadmap for the future.
Oracle Financial Analyzer has had a desupport notice issued by Oracle and so many buisineses are looking for a strategy for replacement that protects their investment in OFA.
At one time this seemed a relatively easy choice. Oracle recommended Enterprise Planning and Budgeting (EPB) for budget modelling systems and Oracle OLAP for more straightforward reporting systems.
EPB however has not had the easiest of rides. Announced too early, released late and with significant pieces of functionality missing uptake has been slow. Since release 2 there is a pretty strong product and there are happy customers but it might all be too late.
Since the Oracle purchase of Hyperion and their business tools things have become a little more complicated. Should business replace OFA with a Hyperion tool instead of EPB?
Currently no-one knows how Oracle will integrate Hyperion's portfolio with their own tools. But if recent purchases are anything to go by there will be significant integration, probably retaining some of the front end functionality whilst replacing the back end database with the core Oracle Server.
So what should businesses do? Well one option is to do nothing until the dust settles and Oracle release a road-map that includes the Hyperion tools. OFA receives error correction support until the end of this year, and extended support to at least the end of 2010. Extended support means Oracle will send fixes for known problems but will not develop fixes for any new issues - OFA is a mature product and new issues have not been seen for some while now.
Getting the right kind of OFA support can help you improve the resilience of your systems with the right patches, tuning hardened code base, use of common subroutines and automatic scheduling.
With the right help you can stabilise your OFA system and get a minimum of three more years of useful life from them. You can use this time to explore the various options for upgrade and develop a solid strategy once the dust settles.
