October 11, 2006-South Bend, IN – Professor Lawrence Roberge, the Carnegie Foundation’s 2005 Connecticut Professor of the Year and the author of The Cost of Abortion, is commencing an important series on matters of urgent concern for Catholics.
Preparing for and responding to emergencies of all kinds as well as biological and chemical attacks, are just some of the topics that Professor Roberge will discuss in this first of its kind dialogue with Catholics on practical ways to live in the world of today. Prof. Roberge draws on a vast range of experience and knowledge in addressing these pertinent topics.
Professor Roberge is a member of the Catholic Association of Scientists and Engineers (CAS+E) as well as the Society of Catholic Social Scientists (SCSS). He has written and presented papers on an array of topics including neuroscience, cloning, abortion vaccines, RU-486, condom research, and fetal research.
Professor Roberge teaches for both Becker College (Worcester, MA) and Florida Community College on biological and medical issues. Previously, Professor Roberge was the Chair of the Science Dept. and Associate Professor at Goodwin College (East Hartford, CT) where he designed and developed the science dept for the nursing program as well as taught Chemistry, Microbiology, and Anatomy & Physiology. It was his leadership and efforts to build a science department from the ground up that resulted in Professor Roberge being awarded the nationally prestigious CASE/Carnegie Foundation Professor of the Year award.
In the 1990’s, Professor Roberge was a technology consultant for the former NASA affiliated technology transfer company where he advised American, European, and Canadian companies on issues of new product development, patents, marketing, and biomedical research. During his tenure at the firm he advised various military industrial firms on issues of biological and chemical weapons during the Gulf War of 1991. Professor Roberge has also taught courses on technology and contingency planning at Lesley College (Cambridge, MA) where some of his students came from major corporate firms such as Lotus Corp. and Pepsi.
