Twenty years ago, it would have been hard to imagine the 25 year old enjoying a (http://www.modelsdirect.com/canyouhelp-select.html) modelling career in the then still predominantly Caucasian world of high fashion.
Thankfully, this is not longer the case, and Penang-born Lu has overcome her initial shyness to establish a modelling career which has seen her appear alongside great names like Monica Bellucci, Tyra Banks, and Cindy Crawford.
As a teenager, Lu harboured dreams of becoming a model but didn’t even realise that Asian models existed. All that changed when she saw Japanese supermodel Ai Tominaga on Fashion TV, and she began to think that perhaps her dreams could become a reality and she could start her own modelling career.
She learned all she could about the industry and what she’d have to do to become a model, and after a brief stint with a modelling agency in Penang, she left Malaysia. She is currently based in New York.
Along the way to becoming a model, Lu learned first hand how persistence and hard work can make all the difference for young people trying to forge a modelling career for themselves.
Lu had been working at it for quite some time before she got her big break and her modelling career took off when she won the 2005 Elite Model Look competition.
Since then she has appeared in fashion spreads in many of the world’s leading fashion magazines, such as Bazaar Espanol, Vogue Taiwan, Elle Accessories, and Cosmo Girl.
One man who has seen the modelling industry open up to talent of all ethnicities is Damian O’Connor, Managing Director of (http://www.modelsdirect.com) Models Direct, a large UK-based modelling agency.
