On Sunday November 14th, 2004, hip-hop, humanity, and beauty meet at the MPLS Café to introduce Minnesota's very own Protégée and her brand new maxi single release. "Still Gutta"… The Maxi Single, is solely breaking new ground in the relationship between hip-hop and humanity.
At first glance, most think that Protégée is just a pretty model with not much to say. Boy are they wrong. From her contribution to Rock the Vote with a "Vote or Die" campaign song, to her stance on HIV/AIDS, to her smooth yet hard lyrics that tell about herself, Protégée has a lot to say.
"There are two things that are important to me right now besides my music. That is the right to vote and the ongoing fight against HIV/AIDS," said Protégée in a recent interview. "Voting is easy. All it takes is a minute of your time to register and then a simple walk to the polls to make your voice heard. The fight against HIV/AIDS is not so easy. It is an epidemic that needs all the help that it can get. In my own back yard, with the help of Tripple Sul Entertainment, I found WUWA (Wake Up We're Affected), an organization that brings help close to home. I have chosen to stand behind WUWA and provide any help necessary. $1 of every CD sold on November 14th at the MPLS Café will go to help fund WUWA programs. I am not a millionaire yet, so this is the least I can do."
Protégée's music can be heard through the airways on Joe Kelley's Upper Room - WVOF (CT), Tone E. Fly Morning Show's B96 (MN), and Power 96 (FL), just to name a few. Some of her other accomplishments include being a Heritage Award Winner for best new artist, a featured article/ interview in the Women's Press, and a successful modeling career.
The 14th will be as versatile as Protégée's image and music. Opening the night will be R&B singer, the choir boy Gary Hodges, the funk daddy Afro-Preachah, and NY native Trama Sutra. The night will also feature free shots of Hypontiq, giveaways, appetizer specials, and on exclusive Lady's of Soul VIP. Special guests include Ms. Shannon Paul, Spitty Will (The Source Magazine & Contrabandit.com), and Liang Chao ( Stormm International). Doors open at nine, general admission is free, there is a dress code that allows no sports attire, the minimum age is 21.
