11 August 2008 – Carrentals.co.uk has no peers in the car rental price comparison marketplace. Their content-rich website contains many features beneficial to travelers all over the UK.
However, its best feature is the easy-to-use search engine, comparing the rates of up to 50 car hire providers, with over 7,000 car rental locations covered; that’s a robust database, and almost a sure-fire way to ensure you’re getting the best price on your next car hire.
But there are others out there, and many of them don’t play entirely fair with their customers. Travelsupermarket is one of them; they bill themselves as the travel price comparison site on the internet, but then fail to deliver on that promise. This is because Travelsupermarket focuses on only a limited number of locations and car rental companies. The companies they feature are only the big ones, and the locations are primarily at airports, providing no practical choices for customers arriving into the UK by train or ferry, and for those who simply want to hire a car in an outlying location, such as in Chamonix.
A true travel price comparison website will offer customers a wide variety of options, with price comparisons on all of them. For example, they will show the price for a per day car rental, utilizing a variety of locations and lots of vendors. This is something Travelsupermarket just does not do.
A recent price comparison (conducted on August 4 2008) showed Carrentals.co.uk offering price comparisons on some 49 locations, while Travelsupermarket only featured 21. All 21 of Travelsupermarket’s locations were at airports – Luton, Stansted, City, Heathrow and Gatwick, while many of Carrentals’ sites were in outlying areas such as Vauxhall, West Hampstead, Wembley and Kensington, as well as the airports.
Carrentals also found that Travelsupermarket was focusing their efforts on only those car rental companies that could afford to be listed on their site. In a scheme whereby rental companies pay Travelsupermarket to be listed on a “pay per click” basis, the results a customer gets when he attempts to compare companies will be skewed. With pay-per-click, advertisers will be charged each time a customer clicks on their link on Travelsupermarket’s website. Only those companies large enough to afford inclusion on the site will be included in the price comparison since only their links will be offered to customers on Travelsupermarket. This is bad news for customers using Travelsupermarket because they are not truly getting the best price for car rentals. In fact, often they are paying more since only the big players can afford to be included on Travelsupermarket’s site under this pay-per-click scheme.
Carrentals.co.uk works on the far more acceptable, much fairer cost-per-acquisition basis, which makes participation much more affordable for the smaller operators who just cannot afford the skyrocketing costs that a pay-per-click scheme could entail. To be included on the Carrentals.co.uk site, car rental companies have only to pay a fee when they receive a new customer.
Because of the affordability of being included in its website, carrentals.co.uk includes over 50 car hire providers in its database, having over 7,000 locations worldwide. This gives carrentals.co.uk customers far greater choice when making a car hiring decision, not to mention a more competitive rate.
