An imminent and growing danger may be lurking in your crawl space, basement, or laundry room: the potential for a dryer vent fire. Up to 15000 dryer vent fires occur in the U.S. each year with devastating results. Dryer Vent Wizard, a new service franchise serving Northeast North Carolina from the Raleigh/Cary area to the coast, specializes solely in the cleaning and repair of dryer vents, both in-home and commercial to reduce and eliminate the incidence of hazardous dryer vent fires.

According to Buie, many dryer vents are not up to code because they are made of plastic or foil. These older, more flexible dryer vents often sag, or are bent and crushed when people attempt to push dryers closer to the wall. The resulting curvature in the vent does not allow the laundry lint to properly escape. As the lint builds up over time, it creates a highly flammable clog that could ignite at any moment with the extreme heat of a running dryer. “If your dryer is taking more than one cycle to dry your clothes, your home or business may be wasting a significant amount of energy, and may also be at serious risk,” explained Buie. “These fires can be prevented by simply having us inspect your dryer vent to assess the need to replace old plastic or foil vents with new, rigid metal vents that comply with current building codes and will not sag or bend over time, therefore providing a much cleaner path for lint to travel through.” Once the new vents are installed, Buie recommends an annual cleaning to ensure that laundry lint moves though the vent without creating build-up.
Jim has already begun providing services to local residences and businesses throughout the Northeast including Raleigh, Cary, Apex, Nashville, Rocky Mount, Tarboro, and others. Recently, he generously provided complimentary inspections and service the local Fire Departments. During the inspection and service Buie, was able to make each fire department’s dryers more efficient with new rigid metal vents.
“Many citizens are not aware that keeping dryer vents efficient and clean is essential to preventing dryer vent fires,” said Buie who has seen the results of a dryer fire first hand.
