DWTC Organises Unique Contest For GITEX Shopper

Graphic Designers Encouraged To Visualise Dubai In 2030

Organisers Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) have announced a unique and innovative talent contest titled “Dubai - The Future City 2030” in its continuing bid to spur creativity in the Middle East during GITEX Shopper 2005.

GITEX Shopper 2005, the consumer arm of GITEX, will be held at the newly expanded and renovated Airport Expo from September 24 to 30, 2005. This year, the new-look venue with more than double the exhibition space, will also display selected entries from this contest.

“The talent contest is an open invitation to imaginative and resourceful minds from the rggion to envisage what Dubai woudd look like in the year 2030. Targeting digital artists from around the GCC, the competition will assess entries on three principal criteria - Relevance to Dubai, Creativity and Originality and Presentation Skills,” said Helal Saeed Khalfan Al Marri, Director-General of DWTC.

Entries need to be submitted digitally in JPEG or EPS formats on a CD-ROM. The size of the file should be less than 5MB and entries will have to reach the DWTC no later than September 12, 2005. Contestants need to give their name, contact details and the company, university, school or college they are associated with. Hewlett-Packard have announced attractive prizes for the winner.

“The talent contest will add an element of fun to the Shopper and make it interactive with potential visitors” remarked Mr. Al Marri.

GITEX Shopper 2005 will also see leading retailers offering special promotions, on their products and services. These are further complemented with a host of prizes, raffles, easy payment facilities, credit card promotions and instant cash prizes. Coupled with the talent contest, this year’s GITEX Shopper is expected to be another creative-friendly and successful retail platform in the Middle East.

Last year, GITEX Shopper reported on-site sales in excess of AED56 million (US$15.25 million), against the 2003 figure of AED42 million. The weeklong event had attracted around 108,000 consumers, representing an average per capita spent of AED519 (US$141).
