Polyclone Bioservices, a Bangalore-based biotech start-up has tied up with Emphron, an Australian boutique bioservices and microarray consulting major, for joint consulting in data analysis, data mining and experimental design for proteomics and genomics.
The overall microarray market is beyond US$ 2 Billion and continuously growing with the advent of new application areas like toxicogenomics, clinical genomics and whole genome arrays. ?Our objective is to cater to high-density array analysis as well as production of high content low-density arrays, which is further upstream of whole genome analysis,? says Naveen Kulkarni, CEO of Polyclone. This tie-up will establish a synergy between Emphron's data analysis capabilities with Polyclone's microarray core facility being set up at the University of Agricultural Sciences in Dharwar. The focus is on developing novel arrays and also providing all the tools to the researcher to maximize the benefit of our products.
“We are delighted to be able to establish this strategic relationship with Polyclone,” said Emphron's Thomas. "Polyclone is an exciting and energetic new company, and we are confident that the phenomenal successes of the Indian IT sector are about to be reproduced in Biotechnology and Bioinformatics. Together Polyclone and Emphron will be able to bring world class capability and commercial energy to endeavour."
Emphron's other field of expertise is in Proteomics, an area of increasing interest to the biotechnology community. Proteomics is the study of the structure and function of proteins. Two dimensional (2D) electrophoresis gel images can be used to identify and characterize many forms of a particular protein encoded by a single gene.
Emphron possesses the skills in segmentation and registration necessary to analyze these highly complex gel images. In addition its image analysis methods can be used to support high throughput secondary screening in drug discovery for the pharmaceuticals industry.
Says Polyclone CEO Naveen Kulkarni, ?Our core facility and the tie-up with Emphron ensures we can offer a whole gamut of services to the biotechnology industry, especially in the pursuit of high throughput, parallel experimentation and miniaturization.
