The sand was being taken from 60 feet-deep ocean bottom that is coral-free, and environmental studies have been conducted in order to protect the natural environment of the ocean before the beginning of the project. This way, a new shoreline was being created, and about 200 feet of coastline was being covered ever day. The coastline was not altered, but restored to its natural state that has been eroded over the past 20 years due to inclement weather patterns.
