BLACK MAGIC WOMAN
Club Deportivo Washinkai Karate gained their first female black belt over the summer.
Xabia International College school secretary, Nikki Sweeney, graded for her black belt, or Shodan, at Milton Abbey in England in July.
Nikki has trained regularly for over four years with husband and teacher Ray Sweeney 3rd Dan. She was set a written exam as well a series of gruelling physical tests, complex semi-free fighting and pair work which were rounded off with three powerful kata.
The examination was carried out by Sensei Chris Thompson 7th Dan, Chief Examiner of British Traditional Karate.
Washinkai grades are registered with the Federacion de Karate de España, the World Karate Federation, the Japan Karate Federation and are therefore recognized worldwide.
Club Deportivo Washinkai are the Municipal Karate Club of Javea and hold classes 15 times per week. The Club is sponsored by the Ayuntamiento of Javea and provides the town’s internationally successful karate team.
