Caribbean Debut of Award-Winning Film “Walking on Sunshine”
Los Angeles, CA – “Walking on Sunshine,” the award-winning film by writer, director and producer Tracy Taylor made its Caribbean debut as a featured presentation at the U.S. Virgin Island (USVI) International Film Festival Nov 17 through 20.
Looking to add its name alongside Cannes, Toronto and Sundance, the USVI International Film Festival committee took place at Carambola Beach Resort on the island of St. Croix. During the four-day event, welcome parties, midnight screenings, comedy shows and beach jams were all on the agenda.
“We are proud to establish St. Croix to celebrate the art and business of film and very excited to showcase the Virgin Islands,” said Tourism Commissioner, Pamela Richards.
“I am very excited that USVI International Film Festival has chosen 'Walking on Sunshine' to be a part of this wonderful event. It is very important we continue to spread the national message of HIV/AIDS awareness and I could not be happier that the film has reached into parts of the Caribbean region,” Taylor said.
Winner of the BET Rap-It-Up/Black Aids Institute and Kaiser Family Foundation Short Film Competition, “Walking on Sunshine” was recently nominated for a 2005 annual Image Award in the category of Outstanding Television Movie, Mini-Series or Dramatic Special and since, has won the 2005 Cable Positive award for best “Outstanding Original Movie” and awarded the 2005 San Francisco Black Film Festival prize for best “Contemporary Issue.” Taylor is currently touring schools, festivals and conferences screening the film.
