There’s been a wonderful prayer chain that’s flowing through our family’s lives and this special chain has been more evident this past year than ever before.
What I mean is even though my folks have always prayed at mealtime it wasn’t until recently that I learned that both my parents pray together every night. It touched my heart because they’ve been fervently praying for my husband and me. And that is not to say they don’t pray for my brother and sister either but because we have had a particularly hard year their concerns have manifested themselves in talking with God. We had lost our apartment buildings after 5 hard years of work in a low income high crime area. We had worked to clean up this particular part of town and had worked with the police and other city officials. So, our investment, to make a long story short was lost to us. We didn’t make a dime. The next financial disappointment came when after selling the apartments and receiving virtually nothing we were given a tax bill of $44,000. If that wasn’t enough the great online business we had went down in the same week without warning. Our income was gone. In addition, we are filing bankruptcy and never ever thought we would have to do anything like that. We have felt devastated. I am not finished with this sad tale of woe because in the same week we learned that my 29 year old daughter had a liver disease.
Fast forward to the present time; praying quietly among ourselves and together my husband and I found ourselves talking more with God too. What we have experienced is humbleness. We find pleasure in little things where it was once ignored or taken for granted. So, slowly we have begun to notice a slight shift in our life’s journey. Just recently we learned that our tax problem is going to be solved (and none too soon, the government is ready to levy the little we have left). It seems that the CPA didn’t have all the deductions on the construction costs. Somewhere someone thought we weren’t supposed to have them. Not with us but city officials and the CPA. But now the $179,000 can be deducted as write-offs. My daughter is controlling her liver disease with diet and rest. She isn’t out of the woods but is moving to a bigger city for better health care. Our new business is wonderful. We feel confident that this company has all its “ducks in a row”. There is so much help in this company and wonderful products that it has been another blessing for us.
