Ray Sweeney 3rd Dan, of Club Deportivo Washinkai, travelled to England last weekend to attend and take part in the Black Belt grading of Daniela Waterland from Javea.
Daniela, 15, who was born in Spain, had trained with Ray for almost 4 years before leaving Javea in July to live in England. Daniela continued to train in Washinkai Karate in England and supplemented her karate with intensive training visits to Javea in preparation for her Black Belt exam. Instructor Ray Sweeney also travelled to England to assist Daniela in getting ready for her test.
Examiner Chris Thompson 7th Dan, Chief Instructor of British Traditional Karate commented that Daniela’s incredibly powerful performance, in front of a group of 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th Dans, was as good as any adult 2nd Dan’s. Club Deportivo Washinkai are the Municipal Karate Club of Javea and hold classes 15 times per week. The Club is sponsored by the Ayuntamiento of Javea and provides the town’s internationally successful karate team.
