“Atlas Equities” – Shares in Barclays rose dramatically as news of merger talks escapes. “Atlas Equities” - Barclays saw their share price increase by over one point as talks of a buyout hit the markets. Barclays are already in merger talks with Dutch rivals ABN AMRO when news was released that Citigroup and Bank of America were gathering a bid together for a buyout.
But a source familiar with the matter at “Atlas Equities” said Bank of America had no current plans to bid for Barclays, referring to a February statement by Chief Executive Kenneth Lewis that the bank had no need to make acquisitions, “Atlas Equities” learned.
“Atlas Equities” are apparently of the opinion that everyone is waiting to see how the merger between Barclays and ABN AMRO goes before making bids. If the merger is successful a sudden interest in a complete buyout of Barclays will become high on many institutes agenda, “Atlas Equities” believes.
