San Jose, Costa Rica, January 21, 2009 -- The lives of PokerNewsDaily.com Guest Columnists Annie Duke, Linda Johnson, Mike Sexton, Bernard Lee, and Eric Lynch have taken center stage in recent weeks. For Duke, the World Poker Tour’s (WPT) Bellagio Five Diamond World Poker Classic represented her first tournament in six months. She commented in her most recent column posted on the poker news site, “The irony of becoming famous for being good at my passion and then not being able to actually play… that is ridiculous.” Duke has had her hands full filming the second season of the “Best Damn Poker Show” (which debuted on Monday, January 12th on Fox Sports Net) as well as NBC’s “Celebrity Apprentice.” The reality television series will hit the airwaves on March 1st. In between, she traveled to Aruba for the Ultimate Bet sponsored tournament on the tropical island nation. In July, the World Series of Poker bracelet winner took a sabbatical, as is her custom following the event. Then, it was December and Duke finally returned to Las Vegas to compete in the $15,000 WPT tournament. Read more about Annie Duke on PokerNewsDaily.com. Tournament Director Linda Johnson wrote a popular column about her pet peeves at the poker table. Among them were excessive celebrations and players who asked to see their opponents’ cards. Johnson also called out players requesting deck changes more than they should as well as the industry’s bullies. Rounding out her list of 12 annoyances were players who berate opponents for making poor plays. She questioned, “Why can’t they just keep quiet and hope their opponent will continue to make mistakes?” Heading into the 2009 calendar year, online poker pro Eric “Rizen” Lynch gave PokerNewsDaily.com readers a reason to smile by saying, “I’m cautiously optimistic that poker can start back on a growth path.” Like Duke, Lynch had just returned from the Bellagio for the WPT event and commented on the new faces he saw in the Fontana Lounge. He revealed that buying a new house and releasing a widely-read book kept him away from poker in 2008. However, he hopes to expand his poker schedule further in 2009. Lynch is an instructor for PokerXFactor.com, a popular training site, and his book, “Winning Poker Tournaments One Hand at a Time,” has become an instant classic. New blogs written by WPT Host Mike Sexton as well as poker columnist and radio show host Bernard Lee are on the horizon.
