Dipayan Mazumdar, Chairman, Legends of India informed that the Eighth Annual Music Festival will be held in New Delhi during May 19- 21, 2006. The Legends of India Lifetime Achievement Award shall be conferred upon a living legend on May 18, 2006 The festival shall present an evening with the legendary Ghazal maestro Ghulam Ali, Music for relaxation by creator of the Mohan Veena and the winner of the Grammy Award, Pt. Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Santoor maestro Pandit Shivkumar Sharma, besides a ballet entitled ‘Jai Bharati’ by Shovana Narayan, Madhavi Mudgal and Geeta Chandran, Guru Singhajeet Singh and Charu Sija Mathur, Guru Jaya Rama Rao and Vanashree and Bharati Shivaji.
On the eve of the festival on Thursday, May 18, 2006 the Legends of India Lifetime Achievement Award for Music will be conferred upon a living legend. Corporate heads, media heads, bureaucrats and other social dignitaries attend this prestigious ceremony. The recipients in the past were Pandit Birju Maharaj, Yamini Krishnamurthy, Shri Habib Tanvir, Badal Sircar, Krishen Khanna and Prof. Sankho Chaudhuri.
Since 1999, doyens of Indian music like Dr. Kishori Amonkar, Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia, Pt. Jasraj, Pt. Bhimsen Joshi, Girija Devi, Pt. Ajoy Chakraborty, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Rajan and Sajan Mishra, Parween Sultana, Shankar Mahadevan, Louis Banks, and Sivamani have performed to packed audiences.
